The 4th Annual Pittsburgh Winter Beerfest is just a few short weeks away, taking place February 24th and 25th at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center. Over 350 beers will be in the house for you to sample alongside food, live music, and plenty of fun with your compadres. And, on Friday night, there’s an added element of fun and competition.

For the first time ever, our friends at Bar-Jutsu are bringing Championship Beer Pong to the Winter Beerfest! Don’t worry, the cups are filled with water, but competition will be spirited as 32 teams battle to be crowned champion.

The tournament is sponsored by the Pittsburgh Thunderbirds, a professional Ultimate Frisbee (Disc) franchise in the American Ultimate Disc League (AUDL). Their games will unfold at Cupples Stadium on East Carson Street and Highmark Stadium in Station Square between April and August. In 2016, the Thunderbirds finished with a record of 11-5.

From the Official Thunderbirds Website:

Pittsburgh Thunderbirds LogoOur mission is to grow interest in Ultimate Disc in the Pittsburgh and Western Pennsylvania regions, develop an elite team of athletes, encourage participation in the sport through community involvement, and provide fans with high entertainment for an excellent value. We will work to improve visibility of the sport in the region and promote youth participation in recreational and competitive environments.

Our vision is for Pittsburgh to become nationally recognized in the Ultimate community. We want Ultimate Frisbee to become a staple in academic, recreational, and competitive environments for youth and adolescents. The Thunderbirds will become a regionally recognized team by major media outlets and by Pittsburgh sports fans.

Pittsburgh is a hotbed for Ultimate. The city may be small by population, but it’s big by passion. Here, success starts with introductory youth programs, rises with middle and high school development, climbs higher with championship college programs, and takes off with national-caliber club teams. This progressive system is a source of pride for the community and will help the Thunderbirds succeed at the professional level. The Thunderbirds aim to add to Pittsburgh’s success stories and will work to improve each component of the Pittsburgh Ultimate community.

The tournament is free to play. In order to compete, you must purchase a ticket to Beerfest. You can register in advance on Bar-Jutsu’s Beer Pong Facebook Event Page or you can register once you arrive at Beerfest’s Friday session.

Do you have what it takes to come out on top? Only one way to find out…

See you February 24th at David L. Lawrence Convention Center!
